Marriage

Congratulations on your plan on wedding! Islam sets rules for all relevant issues with relationship to engagement (Khetbah), marriage contract, wedding, children rearing, rights and responsibilities inside the marriage institution, divorce, custody, breastfeeding, etc. As such a Muslim must always take the marriage for the serious institution it is in Islam. Therefore, marriage is a spiritual covenant, rooted in a commitment and compassion for one another. If you would like to be married at Madina masjid or request an Imam from the Masjid to officiate your wedding ceremony, following steps might come handy to you.

What is the procedure to get married?

Step-1: Talk to the Imam to make an appointment. Don’t wait for the last minute but give him at least 2 weeks advance notice to schedule the meeting with needed resources and time.

Step-2: It is highly recommended to schedule your pre-marriage counseling session. Our premarital counseling is designed for the couple to gain greater insight into a harmonious marriage in lights of Islamic teachings and principles. We pray that this process prepares both of you for the journey ahead.

Step-3: Get the marriage license from the county. (Do not sign it from the civil court). Near by court location are also provided to the sidebar.

Step-4: On the wedding date, bring your prospect (spouse) with court papers, both of your id’s, your father, or a fit guardians and two male witnesses with their id’s to complete the Nikah.

Step-5: Provide Two Witnesses for the Nikkah Ceremony. The bride and groom must provide at least two witnesses for their nikkah ceremony. The masjid will not provide these witnesses, the couple must bring with them two witnesses for the ceremony.

Step-6: Dower has to be declared in monetary value to be entered in the marriage certificate.
